A As a young man with a growing reputation （ 名声） , Albert Einstein received many invitations to explain his theories at different universities. On these trips his driver was always the same – a man called Hans. Hans often said to him, “It’s a pleasure to drive a genius(天才) like you, Dr Einstein.” One evening, on their way to a distant university, Einstein felt so tired that he didn’t want to give his lecture. However, he didn’t want to let his audience down either. “You don’t have to give the lecture”, said Hans, “I can give it for you. I’ve listened to your lecture so many times that I’ve learnt it by heart. No one knows you at this university, so they won’t find out.” Einstein agreed with Hans, so they changed places. At the university, Hans was guided to a platform, where he stood surrounded by professors and students. Einstein took a seat in the audience, listened to Hans give his lecture perfectly, and joined in the applause at the end. However, before Hans left the platform, a professor shouted from the audience, “I’d like to ask you a difficult question.” He then asked a question so difficult that Hans had no idea what he was talking about. Einstein thought, “On no! Now we’re in trouble.” But Hans just laughed and said, “That’s not a difficult question. In fact, it’s so easy that even my driver knows how to answer it. Hans, please…” Einstein stood up and answered the question perfectly. They left the university, with Einstein driving. A little later, Hans offered to drive. “No, my friend,” laughed Einstein. “It’s a pleasure to drive a genius like you, Hans.” 21. Which of the following words can NOT be used to describe Hans? A. responsible B. intelligent C. humorous D. strict 23. We can learn from the passage that ______. A. The question was so difficult that no one could answer it. B. The audience at that university knew that they changed places. C. Hans was clever enough to deal with the unexpected situation. D. 高一英语第4页共10页 24. Which is the best title for the passage? A. A Good Driver Named Hans. B. An Exciting Lecture. C. Two Geniuses. D. A Difficult Question to Answer. B As more and more visitors from other countries come to China every day, many restaurants in China provide English translations of their menus in order to make it easier for foreigners to order Chinese dishes. Except for the convenience of ordering, some restaurants also hope that the translations will increase foreigners’ knowledge of Chinese dishes. However, the precision(准确) of the translations has caused public discussion recently. An article in China Youth Daily says that the English translations of the names of traditional Chinese dishes on menus haven’t lived up to public expectation. According to the article, most English names of Chinese dishes are short of the attraction and cultural meaning. Instead, the translations only list each dish’s ingredients. For example, one English name of a Chinese dish appears as “stir-fried mutton slice with Chinese onion and green scallion(葱爆羊肉)”. Because the translation only focuses on the ingredients, it fails to describe the special Chinese cooking method. There is another example of “Fotiaoqiang”. There are many stories on the history of the dish. Among them, a common story is about a scholar traveling on foot during the Qing Dynasty. While he traveled with his friends, the scholar kept all his food for the journey in a clay jar used for holding wine. Once they arrived in Fuzhou, the capital of Fujian Province, the scholar started cooking the dish. The smells spread over to a nearby Buddhist monastery where monks(和尚) were meditating(静思). Although monks are not allowed to eat meat, one of the monks who was attracted by the smell jumped over the wall to where the scholar was cooking. A poet among the travelers said that even Buddha would jump the wall to eat the delicious dish. Foreigners are likely to be confused when they see “Fotiaoqiang” on the menu. However, if we just list the ingredients of the dish, including chicken, duck, mutton, pig stomach, pigeon eggs and seafood, this translation fails to express the cultural meaning and charm of Chinese traditional food culture. Therefore, translators should provide more beautiful translations of the names of Chinese dishes. A more vivid English translation is very important to provide international visitors with a better understanding of Chinese dishes.

Some of them are not correct. B. They are difficult for foreigners to understand. C. They are too long to remember. D. They are short of cultural meaning and attraction. 高一英语第5页共10页 27. Because of this, developing more positive self talk is an important way to reduce stress in your life. You can help yourself keep a positive state of mind, which will help with positive self talk by surrounding(包围) yourself with positive energy in your life. You can get that by adding the following elements(要素) to your life. First, listening to music that not only has a pleasant melody, but also an inspiring message, can be great for developing positive self talk. Have you ever had a song “stuck in your head” for a few hours or days, the lyrics( 歌词) repeating themselves in your mind? If those lyrics were positive and encouraging, that would be a good thing. It’s a much better mental soundtrack(配乐) to have than a running stream of complaints, criticisms, or even songs that had more discouraging or sad lyrics. What’s more, books on strength, personal power, enlightenment(启发), or self help can be good resources to help you change your view and the things you say to yourself. Rather than bring habitual self-defeating thoughts, you can find yourself thinking of new “can-do” ideas
when times get hard. Another important way to get and keep positive energy in your life is to make supportive friends. Do your friends cheer you up, or bring you down? Ideal friendships provide support when you’re down, fun when you’re up, wisdom when you’re lost. Good friends can inspire you to reach greater heights, and see your strengths. Pay attention to how your friends make you feel, and if they’re less than supportive, start putting your energy and time toward people who are better suited to be your friends. In addition, positive encouragements can certainly change your self talk from negative to positive. Now, why not begin having more encouragements in your life in some creative ways? 32. What does the passage mainly talk about? A. Realizing the stress that negative energy can cause. B. Changing your self talk with positive encouragements. C. Reducing stress by surrounding yourself with positive energy. D. Getting positive energy from the friends you make. 33. How many ways does the author suggest to keep a positive state of mind? A. Three B. Four C. Five D. Six 34. According to the passage, if you have a song “stuck in your head”, you will probably _______. A. learn the lyrics by heart B. keep thinking of the lyrics all the time C. consider the lyrics as positive D. feel annoyed at the lyrics 高一英语第7页共10页 35.
